Department of Postharvest, Supply Chain, Commerce and Sensory Science

Introduction

The teaching and research activities of our department are related to two major areas: postharvest science and sensory analysis.
The modern, quality-controlled technologies for vegetables, fruits and fresh and ultra-fresh produce contribute to the effective application of the latest knowledge by engineers in postharvest procedures.
Education and development of sensory testing protocols is based on internationally accepted standards, including good practices for measuring human perception of quality parameters in a reproducible and statistically validated way in both laboratory and consumer settings.
Our department is involved in the implementation of the BSc program in Food Engineering and Bioengineering, MSc in Food Engineering and MSc in Food Safety and Quality Engineering. We contribute in the Institute's specialist engineering programs: the Master of Pálinka, Master of Brewing, Master of Coffee, Tea and Chocolate and Fruit and Vegetable Processing.
Our research areas are closely related to the topics of our doctoral students in the Doctoral School of Food Science, our OTKA grants, and we collaborate with several Departments in the professional implementation of projects.
In addition to our regular publication activities, we participate in the work of scientific and professional organizations (HAS Horticulture and Food Science Committee, Food Science Subcommittee, Hungarian Standards Board).
